Avoiding the plague like…erm…like the plague

Unfortunately, surviving Lock-Down and winning the game isn’t as simple as just staying on the home square and refusing to move until you’ve been vaccinated.

The rules of the game, like those from the Government, are confusing. Fortunately though, at least the game rules are consistent and have been thought out in advance, not just made up on the spot or hurriedly revised whenever one of our friends is caught breaking them.

You do need to move round the board and you absolutely will be in danger of catching Covid-19. This could happen because of bad luck, regrettable life-choices, barely believable scenarios, encountering an asymptomatic ‘super-spreader’, or your friends just being utter scum and doing nasty things to stop you winning.

At various points in the game you risk exposure to Covid-19. At which point you will need to make an Exposure Roll to find out if you got away with it, have to go into Quarantine, or have caught the virus. Luckily the Hospital Cards include PPE which you can use to avoid these exposure rolls.

If you do catch Covid-19 during the game you make a Severity Roll to find out how bad the infection is. You might be asymptomatic and spend the rest of the lap gleefully infecting everyone you come into contact with, you might be ill enough to be unable to move for a while, or it might be serious enough that you need to go to hospital – in which case you’d better hope that there is a ventilator available.

Frankly, it would be amazing if you make it through a game without catching the virus. The Safe Zones are not evenly spaced so that sneaky loaded die you have won’t help.
